What cntx is

cntx is a personal context system. It keeps a timeline of what happened in a person’s work and life, together with the people, projects and notes that timeline is about. It is operated by Kenny Morales at usecntx.com.

This policy explains what cntx stores, why it stores it, and how a person gets it back or removes it. It covers the cntx web app, the desktop shell and the command line client, which all talk to the same service.

What cntx stores

  • What a person types into it: events, notes, tasks, people, projects and the links between them.
  • What a person connects: account identifiers from the sign in provider, and the access tokens for any integration they choose to connect.
  • Summaries of agent sessions: when a coding agent or assistant writes to cntx, it records a short account of what was worked on and what came of it.
  • Basic operational records needed to run the service, such as error reports and request logs.

cntx does not buy data about a person, does not run advertising, and has no trackers that follow people across other sites.

Google user data

If a person connects Google Calendar, cntx requests read only access to their calendars and the events on them. Specifically, it asks for the read only calendar scope and the read only calendar events scope. cntx never asks for write access to a calendar, and it never asks for Gmail, Drive or contacts.

That access is used for three things, and nothing else:

  • Showing the day: the meetings on a person’s calendar appear alongside the rest of their timeline.
  • Noticing upcoming meetings: cntx can tell a person what is coming so they can prepare for it.
  • Remembering meetings that happened: a meeting that took place becomes part of the timeline, so later notes have something to attach to.

Google user data is never sold. It is never used for advertising. It is never used to train machine learning or artificial intelligence models. It is never shared with anyone except the infrastructure providers needed to run the service, described below, and never for their own purposes.

cntx’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Who else touches the data

cntx runs on a small number of providers, and they process data only so that the service can operate. The database and backend run on Convex. The web app is served from Cloudflare. Sign in is handled through the identity provider a person chooses to sign in with. No one else receives the data, and it is not sold or rented to anyone.

Some features send the text a person writes to a model provider so that the assistant can answer or draft something. Only the text needed for that request is sent, and Google user data is not part of it.

Retention and deletion

Data stays until it is removed. Disconnecting an integration deletes the tokens cntx holds for it, and cntx stops reading from that service immediately. Any calendar information already saved to the timeline can be deleted the same way any other record is deleted.

A person can export everything cntx holds about them, and can delete everything, including their account. Deleting an account removes the records it holds, on request, within thirty days, apart from anything a law requires be kept. Ask at hello@usecntx.com and it will be done.

Security

Access is limited to the account owner. Integration tokens are stored server side and are never exposed to the browser. Traffic runs over encrypted connections. No system is perfect, so cntx keeps as little as it can and makes deletion easy.

Children

cntx is not intended for anyone under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it, and anything material is announced in the app before it takes effect.
